MV Romanic

The Romanic, built in Belfast as the mv Drina for Royal Mail Lines during WW2, was a ship built for the chilled meat trade from South America and when carrying frozen meat from New Zealand the accommodation was soaking wet from condensation. Not only that but the accommodation was low quality as well.

Not too many memories from this trip, but I can remember taking ‘local leave’ over Christmas and travelling from New Plymouth to Wellington to spend it with my girl friend.

On pay off day (28-02-67) the Number One record in the UK charts was: This Is My Song by Petula Clark. Yuk!

Ports Visited: London, Willemstad, Panama Canal, New Plymouth, Dunedin, Panama Canal, Willemstad, San Juan (for repairs), London.
